Posted on December 5th, 2011 by Marketing and PublicitySt Albans Chamber Choir appears in film with Sherlock!
Strange but true! Local choir St Albans Chamber Choir can be seen in a soon-to-be-released film starring British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his role in the BBC’s series Sherlock and the recent film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The film Wreckers was recently premiered to great acclaim at the London Film Festival in October but will have its UK release on 16th December.
The Chamber Choir and their conductor John Gibbons were invited to play the part of a choir in the film by writer and Director D R Hood and are seen alongside co-star Claire Foy whose film character joins the local church choir. Claire Foy rose to fame as Little Dorrit but was most recently seen on TV in The Nightwatch and The Promise.
The London Film Festival programme described Wreckers as “featuring compelling performances from an exceptional cast of young actors, and evocatively filmed in lush fields, eerie churchyards and desolate rural houses, the debut feature from D R Hood is a haunting tale of secrets and lies in the English countryside”.
Choir Music Director John Gibbons said, “St Albans Chamber Choir has always been known for its flexibility and wide-ranging performance skills so it was a great to be able to use the Choir’s considerable experience in a completely different way.”
You will be able to see the Chamber Choir on the big screen from 16th December when Wreckers is onUK release inLondon at the Curzon Soho Cinema in Shaftesbury Avenue, the HMV Curzon inWimbledon and in other regional cinemas.
