| Welcome to St Albans Chamber Choir, EnglandRegistered Charity: 280876 President: Lady Runcie
SACC ProfileSt Albans Chamber Choir was founded in 1958 by June Clark and John Rose. Under the leadership of long-standing conductors Richard Stangroom (1964-96) and more recently David Hansell (1997-2007), it has established itself as a major contributor to the musical life of the area and also further afield, particularly St Albans’ German twin town of Worms. Under its new conductor, John Gibbons, the Choir strives for the highest standards of performance in varied and exciting programmes. These feature music familiar and less well known, from the fifteenth to the twenty-first century, including works commissioned from contemporary composers. The Choir is of a size that enables it to perform music ranging from intimate a cappella pieces to larger multi-part works. It regularly engages professional orchestras and soloists. Nominally priced tickets are available for young people to encourage their interest in choral music (see concert details). The Choir is pleased to acknowledge the support of St Albans District Council. A long association with the Wormser Kantorei provides the opportunity to perform jointly every two years, alternately in St Albans and Worms. St Albans Chamber Choir is a registered charity number 280876 and is affiliated to “Making Music” (The National Federation of Music Societies). It gratefully acknowledges financial assistance from the Dolly Knowles Charitable Trust, the John Lewis Partnership and the Williams Church Music Trust.
